Music from Its Own Output Toshimaru Nakamura uses an analogue mixer as a musical instrument. His no-input mixing board creates feedback through connections in its audio circuitry: the signal returns to the system and passes through it again. One encounter between this instrument and another can be heard on Idiomatic Expressionism, recorded by Nakamura and guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama in 2020–2021. The instruments are no-input mixing board and acoustic guitar. Ftarri’s release page offers excerpts from all five tracks. Reading notes A no-input mixing board routes a mixer’s output back to its input, allowing the musician to work with feedback. By comparison, in the museum’s described version of TV Buddha, the camera films the statue and the monitor displays its image. That arrangement does not by itself imply that the camera films the screen to produce a recursive video loop. Details of the musical practice and album follow the publisher Ftarri. Audio excerpts are available on the release page.
